« Not so Mellow Yellow: Chris VanHove's Labelle CEC report | Main | KTM Canada to bring Nemeth and Brown to Montreal EX »

Late nights and long days at Labelle: the Guy Giroux report

I guess i’m late…..

So here’s a short resume of last week end race, cause i’m already trying to get ready for next week-end race!!!!!!!!!!!

The week went so fast, as tuesday was clean-up time, wednesday i went to Labelle, with both Grafunder to set up the test, we spent 4 hrs laying down track tape, and pickets, but we were really satisfied with both test the cross test was just awesome but i guess we would have to wait till saturday to ride it….

Wednesday night i took the kids to X-Town, for some moto training, the condition were awesome and we had a blast!

Thursday we spent the day getting our bikes ready , and then we got a phone call from a bunch of other westerner( Moose , Fryberg and Dr. Thomas) so i took them in my hometown for lunch and 1-2 beer…

Friday we drove up to Labelle to get everything finished, we set up the rig and relaxed a bit.

Saturday morning I was ready and was feeling super good, i knew i had a chance at the overall in my trails, Karine also decided she would give the race a try , since she was the only girl entered in the girl class… i told her to just ride slow and learn !  As i rode the first lap, i was surprised on how much water there was in the trails…   No problem for the pro guys but i was starting to wonder how would Flexi would ride thrue that???  anyway when i rode to the rig after my first lap, her bike was already on the bike stand, she had quit after only a few km, she realized it would be too hard , and decided to come back to the pits to take care of me instead….  what a brilliant idea !!!

I rode all three laps without mistakes, and i was expecting good result, when the result came out i guess Geoff had ridden better! he was super smooth and his time showed it!

Wojo also had a great day, and the Angry chipmunk (Jason)get me by 2 sec for 3rd overall. I was a little pissed but what can i do the day was over and they were faster, so sunday would be my last try at an overall…

Sunday morning i was feeling good but a little tired, rode the first lap without mistake, but on the second lap i did 3 little mistakes in the enduro test, on lap 3 i did another mistake in the extreme, so things were looking so-so…

Then came the mx test, i knew this was my place to shine, i got a good start behind Wojo, and studied him all thrue the first lap, Jason did attack me at one point but i squeezed him outside and held second place, then i realized something was feeling wrong, i had abused my rear brake and it was starting to overheat…. to the point that i had no more power the wheel was blocking as soon as i wasn’t pinned, so i had to think fast, i had to finish that test without losing time, so i let Jason and geoff go, and concentrated on holding my bike pinned without stalling it or crashing, i had to abuse the clutch big time, but made it in 4th ……….   I was so pissed, i wanted that win so bad, mostly for bragging rights…. But i guessed i should have thaught about saving my brake earlier………

We packed everything then went to the trophie banquet!

After the banquet i took control of the afterparty,  we only found one open bar in St-Jovite, i went in and ask the girl if she could speak english and what time she closed?

The answer was Yes and 3am…  So i let the 40 tourist following me enter !!!  the waitress face almost turned white, if she was expecting a quiet sunday night !!! she was wrong!!!

We had a blast everybody was there, complete top ten, bench racing, sponsors, media etc    The friendship in the CEC is awesome, it seems everyone is friend with everyone!!!

Then at 4am , as i was gonna take everyone to a poutine place!  there was no snack bar open????

So we packed 2 taxi up , one western, one french, and drove straight to the mcdo, and ordered take out food….  no poutine but clown food would probably rank in 2nd for late night snack anyway…

This week is also crazy, i’ve build a small endurocross track yesterday night, and i’m going back there later to learn how to ride those stupid tractor tires…

Tomorrow is getting bike ready for sunday race, where i will race my 300 again, then training again friday and sat on the small track on the 250f.

No pics again……………go to www.offroadmotorcycles.ca (editors note: Don’t worry Guy, we’ve got you covered!)

till next tuesday have fun!
